During the Paleozoic era, in the Devonian period,
around 370 million years ago, the first amphibians
developed from the bony fish,  whose fins evolved
into extremities.
These creatures were able to live in the water, and
on land as well.

Later on, in the Carboniferous period, around 310
million years ago, the first reptiles evolved from 
the most dominant amphibians.
These reptiles were very primitive, and small lizard
type animals.

Since then and until now, the lizards still have a primeval
brain, which is only concerned with instinctual
behaviours.

The Reptilian Brain

 

The amygdalae ( Greek for almonds ), are two almond
shaped groups of neurons located deep in the temporal
lobe of our brain.
Their main concern is,  (a)  basic survival instincts like:
body growth and maintenance, food, reproduction and
fight-flight-freeze;   and  (b)  emotions like:   
fear, anger, memory and pleasure.

This is the most primitive part of our brain  —  and
although it has been developing for almost 280 million
years, it is still similar to the total brain of a Lizard, as
far as its capacity and perception are concerned.

Unfortunately, this Lizard brain’s education is still 
based on the many million years of evolution, without
developing and adjusting    and it 
is most irrelevant to
our modern way of life. 

As a consequence, we choose to behave in such primal,
savage and crude ways, that cause us thousands of
problems during our life.
Those primitive threats of the past do not exist any more,
for us to react in the same way as those prehistoric times.
Therefore, our survival instinct instead of helping us, it is
doing exactly the opposite    hurting us.

Fear, one of the strongest emotions, is an extremely
uncomfortable feeling.
Fear can paralyse you by triggering the fight or flight
response, and actually make you ill.

The physical feelings of fear are very scary, because
your Lizard brain keeps on sending danger signals
to your body;    even though you, yourself, can see that 
there is nothing life threatening, and your fear is 
obviously out of balance.

So you do need to use mental and physical ways to 
overcome this extremely disturbing feeling:

 

M o d u s

 

a)     Realise that fear is only a primeval feeling 
that exists merely to save your life    and most 
likely you are not in a life threatening situation.
Therefore, do not give it any priority, and dissociate
yourself from it.

b)     Decide whether your fear is justified and valuable
in any way at all, or you are simply disrupting and
obstructing yourself from succeeding in your goals.

c)      Know  deeply within yourself that you really are
capable
of handling everything;   and do trust yourself.

d)     Recognise that when you take decisions with 
the attitude of  just in case , this again is your fear
disguised as protection.
So refrain from any Just In Case resolutions.

e)     Ask for spiritual guidance to assist you in fighting
your fear.
This will make you feel connected to an entity that
is greater than yourself.

f)     Always, try to surround yourself only with brave
and courageous 
people, who can make you feel positive,
strong and inspired.

g)     Always, try to stay active and exercise on a daily 
basis to take your mind away from your fears.

you will immediately feel relieved and free.

Learn it well, in order to live a peaceful, successful and

Hi there!

 

It was Saturday evening, and she had already
started feeling restless, and so stressed to the point
of experiencing anxiety.

In a few hours she was going to meet him for the
first time;   and although she was so nervous, at
the same time she was feeling very excited to meet
that attractive man.

She double checked that everything was perfect on
her, and decided to start early enough because she did
not want to arrive feeling breathless.

She was mostly concerned whether the date would
go well or poorly;   but she managed to keep herself
under control at the end.

Arriving at the meeting place though, she was already
having jittery feelings and various sensations in her
body;   entering the café she noticed her palms were
extremely sweaty.

She ordered a drink, tried to think positively and
relax as much as possible.
The fun was starting now ……

Eu ( meaning good in Greek ) stress is extremely
important for a healthy life.
This is a positive type of stress, either psychological,
like falling in love, or physical, like exercising.

You usually feel this good stress when you are
excited about something new happening in your life.
You perceive it as a positive challenge, and it keeps
you feeling vibrant, energetic and lively.

Consequently, to feel this way, you need to choose
only whatever makes you feel good, pleasant,
satisfied, joyful and happy in general.
At the same time, you do need to eliminate everything
else that has the opposite results.

However, although this good stress is greatly beneficial
to your health, you must make certain that you do
do not experience excessive amounts of it;
because it is still accumulative stress with consequences.

In order to keep all stress in your life under control,
you must change your perception towards it.
You should feel challenged by the situation and not
threatened by it in any way.

c)     Mental Performance

It generates new nerve cells in the brain;
therefore, you perform much more efficiently
in all aspects of your life.

d)     Physical Body Function

It supports the body’s antioxidant and immune
operations.
It restores any cellular damage.

 

The most vital task for you is to keep your stress
under control, so that it does not become harmful.
In order to get all the health benefits, your stress
should be in short bursts  —  not for long periods
or chronic.

3)     Develop relationships, maintain your sense of
humour and have fun.

4)     Embrace all situations that cause short term
stress like;
Going on a first date, Attending a celebration, Giving
a speech, Riding a roller coaster.

5)     Train your brain to view stress positively, and
find ways to use it to your advantage.

6)     Attach a purpose to a stressful situation in order
to see its benefits and handle it properly and efficiently.

 

Remember that brief episodes of stress, with time of
recovery in between, are extremely beneficial to
your health.

Make stress your friend, and accept it as part of your

Hi there!

 

Bo was working in his office this afternoon when he
received an email from his colleague asking him for
assistance with his project.

As soon as he read this he felt resentful immediately,
since he knew that on the one hand he wanted to
help him, but on the other this would entail extra
time and effort for him.

Thinking more about it, he did not want to accept
this obligation, because it meant he would have to
stay in the office late, and neglect part of his own
commitments.

I have no reason to accept this other than being
helpful to a colleague, something which I can’t
afford to do at the moment he thought.

I have to say No to you this time, because I’m
extremely busy at present and I have no time
to spare for more work.
But I can recommend Jos to you, who will be pleased
to help you with your project .

Bo decided, and replied to his colleague without any
further delay.

Immediately he felt relieved and ready to continue
with his own business.

Will Power

 

Most people dislike to say NO because they want to
help and be nice to the other person.
But saying yes all or most of the time entails a lot
of unpleasant consequences like,
    loss of valuable time,
    waste a huge amount of mental energy,
*     a great amount of pressure.

All of these result in physical and mental exhaustion.
Yet people find it so very hard to say NO.
This is happening because of many reasons like,
*     they want to avoid any arguments,
*     they want to be polite,
*     they want to fit in with the others,
*     they want to maintain good relationships,
*     they feel guilty if they do not help.

But if you really want to create your own life and
pursue your goals, you do need to be in full
control of all situations around you.

Learning to say NO is the greatest reward you can
give to yourself.
In order to be able to do so, you will need to become
decisive, confident and assertive  —  but at the same
time you must be calm and polite.

Being assertive means you must convey your message,
and at the same time to listen to the other person.
It means sharing and appreciating others.

When you manage this you will increase your
self-confidence, you will become more understanding,
you will improve your self-image and finally you
will achieve very much more.

Before you decide and turn down any demands
and requests from other people, you need to
evaluate the situation.

Here are the steps you need to take:

a)     Take your time to think all requests made on
you before giving any answer.
Say you will let them know as soon as possible.
Study the demands and make certain they will
fit your own obligations and commitments.

b)     Analyze your priorities, and decide whether
the new engagement is of any significance, relevance
or magnitude to you.
If you find it is of no consequence to you, just ignore it.

c)     Consider the time length the new engagement
will need to be completed.
If it is long term, disregard it, because it will be adding
more stress on you.

d)     Refuse immediately any demand or request,
which makes you feel guilty if you do not do it.
If you accept something under these circumstances
you will feel pressed, stressed, anxious and eventually
really sick.

way you can ever control the other person’s feelings
and reactions.

The following advice is how to do this best:

a)     Know your value as a person and have the right
attitude, independence and energy.

b)     Stand in a power pose, look calm and assertive,
and be fast and polite.

c)     Communicate your NO decision clearly and firmly,
using simple words.
Do not complicate and over-explain things.

d)     Offer an alternative solution to show your good
will and to meet half way.

e)     If at all possible and you really want to help,
offer a lesser commitment.

Do not forget, you are responsible only for
yourself,
and not for any other person’s feelings
and actions
towards you.

Nothing is perfect, including humans.
Use any criticism for your own growth.

Remember, you can not please everybody.
Never lose your self-worth.

Bo had everything he wished in his life:
the perfect job offering him a high income, a couple
of houses and cars to enjoy, a beautiful wife
and a huge bank account.

But Bo was not a happy man, because he was
feeling his control over everything in his life
was very limited.

In his business, he was always trying to make
people work according to the way which would
be acceptable to him.
Obviously, the real world disregarded him, and
his wishes never took place.

When he returned home, he was always struggling
to control his wife’s plans and actions.
Again, to no avail.   She still acted her own ways.

I must change my attitude;   I need to understand
and learn to do my best, and believe that things
will come out all-right .
He said to himself one morning.
Since then his life has changed completely.

Last week Seve celebrated her birthday.
A big new decade was starting;   she was entering
a new era in her life, and 
she had to create her new self.

I’m right on top of everything she said to her
long-time partner.

Everyday is mine to do as I please:   I take good care of
myself by eating healthy and
looking after my appearance;
I go for daily walks, I love and laugh a lot;   I have a mission:
to be creative and help
people like me she continued.

She walked into the bedroom and looked  herself in the
wardrobe mirror    but
she could not see very clearly
without her
glasses anymore.

No matter what happens, I do love myself as I am now,
and I do feel powerful she

Most people want to be gifted and creative.
Creativity is a skill to be learnt.
To start with it needs to be encouraged
and cultivated.

After it needs to be practiced.
Later it needs to be developed and perfected.
At the end it will be implemented.

The advancement is slow and it takes time,
but the more you do it the more it will grow;
and you do not even have to press yourself
very much.

When you have become creative you will start
viewing the world from another perspective.
Your attitude and mindset will change, and
you will act differently from the average person.

Soon you will realise that life is much more
complex, sophisticated, significant, 

meaningful    and full of possibilities.

You will find that your mind will never slow down
and you will like to be spending time with
yourself in your own space;
something which will give you the opportunity
to focus, contemplate and get excited about

Hi there!

 

Sev was a middle aged active woman with lots
of interests and many good connections.
But there was something in her character that
made her life miserable.

She was always analysing everything, thinking
deeply and in detail, and consequently worrying
all the time.
She only existed in her mind.

Every morning she would wake up preoccupied
with all things she wanted to perfect.
She was in a bad mood and irritable most of the
time, because she felt everything around her
was uncertain and unstable.

Suddenly one morning she started thinking, 
I don’t want to waste any more days of my
life being so unhappy.
I will stop worrying and start getting excited
instead, and look forward to the new day “.

And so she did.   She started living on purpose,
and feel happy each new day.

and it is the most awesome emotion to wake
up every morning experiencing joy, pleasure,
enthusiasm and excitement.

The way you feel when you wake up in the
morning, your practices and your routines
will affect your thoughts, your feelings and
all your actions for the rest of the day.

As soon as you arise and greet the day each
morning, it takes you some time to become
fully conscious of your body and environment.
Consequently and as a priority, you need to
pay all the necessary attention and care so
that you can feel relaxed and happy.

Plan your day correctly by using the proper
approach;   and most importantly, wake up
with a positive mental attitude, so you can
get off to a great start.

a)     The night before go to bed feeling happy,
relaxed and grateful.

b)     Sleep in a dark and quiet bedroom, turned
on your right hand side for around 7 hours.

Stretch all your body, yawn widely, pray for a
few minutes and look at the flowers in your
bedroom    vase or pot or pictures.

d)     Get up slowly, open your window/door to
let the fresh air and day light into the room.

e)     Turn on the radio and play the music you
like mostly;    then start your morning routines.

f)     Hug and kiss your loved ones, talk to them
and keep on smiling.

g)     Eat a nutritious protein breakfast and drink
peppermint tea with a full teaspoon of honey.

h)     Plan your day well to live with purpose.
Walk in nature, exercise moderately, immerse
yourself in a pleasant activity like reading or
writing or gardening.
Do all the things that make you happy. 

i)     Have a number of responsibilities to feel
useful and motivated, but always prioritize.

j)     Always anticipate:
Look forward to holidays, outings, trips, social
events, drink/dinner out, etc.
